Pick one or more names at random from your own list. Choose how many to draw and whether the same name can come up twice – handy for everything from splitting a class into groups to naming a winner.
With or without replacement
Without replacement, each name is drawn at most once. That is the right setting when you are splitting a group, choosing several different winners or setting an order of play.
With replacement, the same name can be drawn again. Use it when every draw should be independent of the ones before, for instance when you pick one person at a time over a long lesson.
Paste the whole list at once
Type or paste one name per line – a copied class list or a column from a spreadsheet drops straight in. Blank lines and stray spaces are cleaned up automatically, and the number of names is shown above the box.
Frequently asked questions
- How many names can I add?
- There is no practical limit – paste in a whole class list or staff list in one go.
- Can I split a group into teams?
- Draw names without replacement and set how many should go in the first team; you get a random split you can repeat for the rest.
